Ohio Poetry Association July Picnic - Saturday July 21, 2007

Brief Meeting Summary: A good time including great food was enjoyed by all. The picnic was held at Whetstone Park in Columbus.

Key business issues included an extensive review of the results of the Ohio Poetry Association (OPA) Survey. Several motons occurred.  To meet rising costs and assure the financial stability of the organization, dues were increased by $3.  President Bob Casey was authorized to examine other methods of encouraging individual and group sponsorships.  Through the survey a number of members volunteered their assistance.  OPA will be contacting those individuals to thank them and to use their talents to improve the organization.  Extensive discussion also occurred regarding the Ohio Poet Laureate issue.  While the results of the survey supported the concept, the members present discussed the capacity issue – do we have the membership strength and statewide recognition to cause this to occur?  That topic will continue to be discussed.

Open readings followed the business meeting. The person travelling the furtherist was from Cleveland.
